Dr. Alan Durkin, Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, Vero Beach

Alan J. Durkin, M.D. attended the University of Miami for his undergraduate degree in Biology, graduating magna cum laude. He then went on to earn a Master’s Degree in Medical Radiation Physics from the Rosalind Franklin University of Health Sciences in Chicago. After completing his Masters, Dr. Durkin matriculated into the University of South Florida College of Medicine. During this period, he developed a strong affinity for clinical and translational research, as well as the clinical practice of surgery. After earning his Medical Degree, he went on to complete two full residencies in General Surgery and Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at University of South Florida. During his post-graduate tenure, Dr. Durkin completed a surgical oncology research fellowship at the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center.  Dr. Durkin has published over twenty peer-reviewed articles on topics including surgical oncology, therapeutic EGF receptor antagonism as cancer treatment, portal hypertension, breast reconstruction, cosmetic body contouring, hand surgery, and multisystem trauma.  He has also presented at numerous national and international surgical meetings and has been recognized with numerous honors and awards in medicine.   Dr. Durkin specializes in craniofacial reconstruction, oncologic reconstruction, and cosmetic surgery.

Dr. Durkin and his wife, Dr. Roxanne Engel, who holds a dual Ph.D. degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, recently moved to Vero Beach from Arizona with their two Jack Russell terriers.
