AFTER | In older people or individuals exposed to large amounts of sun and stress, wrinkled, creased and sagging skin can develop on the face and neck. The jaw line softens into jowls and another chin appears at the neck. While a facelift can't stop the aging process, in many cases it can "turn back the clock" giving individuals a more rested, youthful appearance.
This procedure is performed on patients anywhere in age from their thirties to their eighties with successful results. Facelifts can be performed alone or in conjunction with other facial rejuvenation surgeries such as eyelids and brow lifts.

AFTER | The surgery will be done in an outpatient setting under monitored anesthesia administered by a board-certified anesthesiologist. This may include mild sedatives, local anesthesia and intravenous anesthesia, commonly called "twilight sleep".
The facelift incision will begin above the ear in the temple hair and extend around the ear to the lower scalp. The skin is raised and underlying muscle and connective tissue will be repositioned and tightened. Excess skin and fat will be removed. After surgery, a bandage will be applied to protect the area where the incisions were made. This will be removed the morning after surgery. Sutures and staples are removed within ten days and patients are back to work within two weeks.

Facial News 2004 by Ferdinand F. Becker, M.D., F.A.C.S. A Facelift That’s Naturally You
“Have you lost weight?” “You look great . . . that vacation in Florida did you a world of good!”
Patients of Advanced Facial Cosmetic & Laser Surgery Center who have had facelifts typically receive compliments like these following their surgeries. Although they’ve made a noticeable improvement, the result is so natural that their friends often don’t recognize exactly what has made the difference in their appearance.
According to Center Medical Director Ferdinand F. Becker, M.D., F.A.C.S., the approach to each facelift must be customized for every individual, with the goal to achieve as natural a result as possible. “We don’t believe that it is attractive to look ‘pulled’ or ‘tight,’” says Dr. Becker. “Instead, we want each patient to retain his or her appearance, but with a refreshed look.”
Today, there are many approaches to facelift surgery that can be considered given the needs of each patient, including:
A limited incision facelift is ideal for younger patients (from about age 40 to 55) who are experiencing early aging changes in the lower face and neck, such as minimal deepening of the fold of skin lateral to the mouth (the nasiolabial fold), and slight jowl formation. The incision is shorter than that of the standard facelift, so recovery time is less than that of the standard procedure. Recovery time can be lessened further through the use of platelet gel and lymphobiology.
A standard facelift is appropriate for those who are experiencing more pronounced and significant aging changes, such as deeper folds and more jowling and redundancy of skin in the face and neck. If needed, a standard facelift may include a corset platysmaplasty, which tightens the muscle in the neck area. Liposuction is also used in most cases to sculpt the neck for a more youthful appearance.
A temple lift is a popular choice for patients with less severe lateral brow lines and crows feet not involving the entire face. An incision is made in the temple area and the skin is gently lifted. A temple lift is sometimes recommended in conjunction with a facelift, to achieve optimal results.
Regardless of the procedure chosen, an important consideration is the placement of incisions to eliminate noticeable scarring. “We camouflage incisions by placing them within the natural fold of the ear,” says Dr. Becker. A recognized expert in this area, Dr. Becker has been published on the topic of incision placement in the Archives of Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery. A copy of his paper is available upon request.
Whatever your specific goals are, a facelift procedure is available to help you address problem areas and achieve a more youthful appearance . . . naturally. Contact us today to schedule your consultation.
