Sculptra®

Sculptra® is an FDA-approved volumetric filler, ideal for those with facial hollows and indentations, such as sunken cheeks. The condition, known as facial fat loss or lipoatrophy, can be treated with Sculptra®, a synthetic and biocompatible material that is injected below the surface of the skin in the area of the fat loss.

Dr. Becker has trained directly with the manufacturer, Aventis Pharmaceuticals, Inc., at a cosmetic clinic in Geneva, Switzerland on the use of Sculptra®.

Unlike Restylane and collagen, Sculptra® is specifically a volumetric filler for larger hollowed-out areas of the face, which can occur around the cheeks and eyes. It is actually an L-polylactic acid, an extremely safe material that has been used in sutures for years. It it injected between the skin and the underlying subcutaneous tissue, and it causes the skin to thicken over the next several weeks.

Anywhere from two to five treatments may be required, depending upon the patient's needs, with results lasting two years or more.
